Genius Hour Week 5

Quote: "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn."

I love this quote. It reminds me of my mom! I always ask her to teach me how to cook certain Mexican dishes and her reply is "all you need is a pinch of this and a pinch of that.. " She tells me but I never make it because I might remember the ingredients but I still don't know how to make it. When I cook , bake, or craft, I need visuals and step by step directions to go with things. I learn by doing!

Every time I start a new project I go through some emotions. It usually start with high emotions, then some anxiety over starting and maybe not finishing, but when I do finally get going and finish I am extremely proud of myself!

This week, I felt like I did a two for one! I not only created something, I also did it in video format. I don't know what I was thinking but I did it! This week's project came from a Facebook page. I'm friends with a group of teachers from different states and they are always posting decorating ideas for their classrooms and their homes. They are always using scrapbook paper, glitter, and Mod Podge (a water based sealant and glue). I hope you enjoy the video!

  1. I really like the visual that you provide about your effort and results! Also, your video is such a great way to show us how your project has been going. The finished product looks amazing! I always see letters like that at Marshalls and TJMaxx but I think making my own would be way more fun.

It is a lot of fun. Crafting really relaxes me...well crafting and a glass of wine!

  2. I ABSOLUTELY love this idea! I give you a lot of credit for following through. Like I told Nicole, I have terrible ADD and often start projects to only leave them incomplete because I become distracted. Thanks for the video too! I also appreciate visuals to help me learn. I need examples! Great job sista!

  3. Great idea!! I love your creativity! It all looks amazing! I like to do stained glass but I never fully finish anything. I really like the designing and cutting--I find that to be relaxing. I have two pieces that are almost done and just need very minor final finishes, but that's where I stop. I'm a perfectionist, so I'm never really happy with my end result. I guess that's why I don't finish. I like the relaxing part, just not the finished work:)

    1. Julie,
I've never tried stained glass. I might have to try that over the summer. I would love to see what you're working on! I have a bit of type A personality when it comes to crafting. I'm my own worst critic.
