Genius Hour Week 4
Quote: “It is not that I'm so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.”
- Albert Einstein
This quote reminds me of this past weekend. I went on a college tour with my teenage kids. The tour guide was so fabulous, I was ready to enroll myself! I told my kids that if I could afford to quit my job and come back to college to learn about Computer Networking or being a Surgical Technician, I probably would! I think this quote refers to desire to learn even after our formal education. It's for people to strive to find answers to their questions.
Last week, I came down with bronchitis. I had been invited to my godson's 19th birthday party and I knew I wasn't going to be able to attend or to have time to shop for a gift. Although at his age money or a gift card are better gifts. Personally, I don't like just giving money in a card. I like to make it fun and personalized. So, I quickly fumbled through my craft box and drawers and I quickly came up with this idea: a money tree. This project is simple. There are about 5 steps and can be done in less than one hour. In case anyone is curious, the tree totaled to about 65 dollars, that's only because I used a few 5 dollar bills and a 20 dollar bill. Otherwise, I'm sure this could be done with about 30-40 dollars in singles.
There are few things, I already know I would have done differently. One, I would have taken before and after pictures and two, I would have decorated the dowel rod with washi tape! I blame the lack of creativity on my bronchitis! He loved it regardless!

That is a very nice project! One can hope that the craftiness of the delivery will encourage your Godson to save his money, or at least give him pause before he strips the leaves. I think that money is a really good gift. Living as we do in the age of stuff, money gives young people the chance to be more purposeful in their acquisition of physical things.
