Genius Hour Week 1

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the
ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in
your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
This quote by Mark Twain really resonates with me, especially at this point in my life. I have noticed that as I get older
and my kids aren't as dependent on me, I want to be more adventurous. I want to spend more time doing things that I
want to do. I want me time! I've always been good at telling other people, "don't live with regrets", "you don't want to
look back 20 years and ask yourself, why didn't I do ___!" Now it's time to take my own advice.

look back 20 years and ask yourself, why didn't I do ___!" Now it's time to take my own advice.
When considering a new project, I jumped into the reflection exercise. These questions stood out the most: What do I do on weekend mornings?, Are any of these ‘making’ or ‘creating’ something?, What types of information do you read and watch?, and What am I doing when I feel most beautiful? The answer to all these questions is crafting! Whether it's card making or making home decor items, I really enjoy making things.
Pinterest and YouTube are my go to tools to inspire me. I look through Pinterest for ideas but I go to YouTube for tutorials because I'm more of a visual learner. NashSisterVlog and This Sourthern Girl Can are two vloggers that I like because they make tutorials with items from Dollar Tree! One of my favorite stores. With the holidays coming up I would like to make wreaths for my house and as gifts. Let's just hope they don't end up on a meme of Pinterest Epic Fails!!!

One of my favorite things ever is crafting! I'm so excited to keep reading your Genius Hour to see what you create in the next several weeks. One of my favorite crafts is (wine) glass decorating. The paint is a little pricey (from Michael's) but it lasts a long time. You could definitely find some cool glasses at the Dollar Tree too!
ReplyDeleteHmm, these could be good Christmas or birthday gifts! Thanks for the idea!
DeleteAlicia,
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice project you chose for the Genius Hour: Crafting! Making your own wreaths and gifts for the holidays is something that you will really enjoy. Particularly, on the other side, I appreciate when someone creates a handmade gift for me. I value the time and dedication the person spends making my present. It adds a personal touch and makes me feel so special. I can't wait to see your craft work
I feel the same way. I like the personal touch from a handmade gift.
DeleteAlicia!
ReplyDeleteYour post makes me want to change my boring Genius Hour Project of "Local Politics" to something much more exciting! Is it too late to change my original? Maybe I will try something like Jui Jitsu. Ive always really wanted to try a more challenging martial art. While, boxing is so much fun and I really enjoy it. I should really try to step outside my comfort zone and try Jui Jitsu! Maybe that is what I will do next week instead!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Sheila, I know that whatever you chose to do, it will be amazing. I love your courage and perseverance to get things done! Jiu Jitsu is a tough sport but I can totally see you kicking butt! Good luck!
DeleteCan't wait to see some of your creations! I am not a creative soul by any means, so I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrea! My mom says my creativity comes from being a lefty! I tell her that usually makes it more difficult for me because everything is modeled for right handed people.
